Find Job-Seeking MBAs from Top Business Schools on Twitter

Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are extremely valuable hiring tools with today’s growing desire for instant information and dependency on networking. Facebook and LinkedIn fulfill the networking dependency. Twitter is better for delivering instant information.

Twitter has grown over 1000% in the last year – mainly b/c of the celebrity presence. But this doesn’t mean it can’t be used as an effective hiring/recruiting tool. Many companies have a presence on Twitter. And some of the bigger employers have multiple accounts, including an entire job/hiring-dedicated presence.

Now, business schools are jumping on the bandwagon; even those older, more established programs. These schools are just some of the b-schools @MBAFocus is already following on Twitter:

LinkedIn, Twitter And Facebook – How Can These Help In Your Job Search?

Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are extremely valuable job-search tools with today’s growing desire for instant information and dependency on networking. Facebook and LinkedIn fulfill the networking dependency. Twitter is better for delivering instant information.

Twitter has grown over 1000% in last year – mainly b/c of the celebrity presence. But this doesn’t mean it can’t be used as an effective job-search tool. Many companies have a presence on Twitter. And some of the bigger employers have multiple accounts, including an entire job/hiring-oriented presence (i.e. @CitigroupJobs, @VerizonCareers, @ibmbejobs). If job-seeking candidates can find these accounts, they can be some of the first interested job-seekers to apply for open jobs (increasing chances of getting hired).

Twitter can also be a more business-appropriate job search tool. Unlike Facebook, where “inappropriate pictures, videos, notes, and messages can be posted, Twitter is basically just answering the question “what are you doing?”. Most MBAs cannot get into any trouble answering this question (though there are of course some exceptions). In any case, most MBAs therefore are willing to use their personal Twitter account as a job-searching tool. (FYI – anyone using a personal Twitter account should be aware of tools like TweetDeck which allow you to separate the Twitter account you follow into groups – therefore allowing you to create a “job search group” that can be checked daily for new jobs and MBA job-related news).

For example: I am currently experimenting with Twitter to better promote MBAs to both employers and job-seeking MBAs. I have opened up 6 accounts to tinker with:

http://twitter.com/MBAFocus
http://twitter.com/hireMBAs
http://twitter.com/MBAalumni
http://twitter.com/jobs4MBAs
http://twitter.com/MBArecruiters
http://twitter.com/bskool

Some of these have just been opened, and are still a work in progress. But I plan on making all 6 URLs relevant and well-followed Twitter accounts with interesting information pertaining to selected audiences. Start following them today and please give feedback via Twitter or this blog. Any advice is welcome.

Why to Jump on the Bandwagon: Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn

Most of you have friends on Facebook, and some of you are likely connected on LinkedIn, but have you jumped on the latest train leaving the internet networking station, Twitter? “Follow us on Twitter” – the new catchphrase sweeping the world. MBA Focus is now an active member on all three of these social networks, and we have found just like you will, that these websites are not only for social relations, but also for career connections. Just as a personal blog can boost your resume and help brand your name in your field, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn can significantly increase your chances at landing your dreamjob. After all, “you gotta know someone to be someone.” If that someone you want to be is an MBA with a high-paying job in the field of your choice, you better know someone to help you get there.
